A chara,

Many teachers use social media and electronic communication to enhance their classroom practice, introducing their students to new tools and delivering the curriculum in innovative and engaging ways. Electronic communication and social media also provide new ways for teachers to communicate with students, colleagues and the public.

In this context, the Teaching Council has launched Guidance aimed at assisting teachers who use electronic communication and social media. This Guidance seeks to support teachers in continuing to make the best use of electronic communication and social media tools. It is our intention that it be a useful reminder for some, or generate awareness for others, on the appropriate use of social media and electronic communication.

Submissions were invited through an extensive consultation process during which draft Guidance was issued to every teacher on the register who held an email address. In addition, all key stakeholders including Teachers Unions, Managerial Bodies and Parents Councils engaged in the consultation process between December 2018 and September 2019.
